Creator Vs Evangelist Vs Curator
What do they actually mean?
Whatโs up, Creators Circle!
Iโm at B2BMX this week, hanging out with a few thousand marketers and creators. Meeting people IRL is something that just hits completely different. My next thing is to get to some creator-specific conferences and speak there.
If you ever want someone to speak about the creator economy, specifically B2B, shoot me a note! Always happy to learn more.
Creator is a word thrown around a lot lately, but how do you get started?
Here's how you can get started today:
๐ฏ ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ก๐ถ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ: Specialize in an area you're passionate about. Whether it's tech, marketing, finance, or another field, honing in on a specific niche will make your content more targeted and relevant. Now, some people say you don't need a niche, and listen; ultimately, you gotta figure out what works for you.
Understand your target audience's needs and pain points. What do they look for in content? How can you provide value?
Plan your content strategy. What topics will you cover? How often will you post? Remember, consistency is key, but that doesn't mean you gotta post every day.
Choose the right channels to share your content. LinkedIn, industry blogs, YouTube/IG/TikTok, newsletters. Some say to start with one before moving on, and I did the same, but I am now on every platform + a newsletter.
Mix up your formats. Blogs, videos, infographics, and podcasts can all be part of your arsenal. Different formats appeal to different audience segments.
Connect with other B2B creators and industry professionals. Networking can lead to collaborative opportunities and increase your reach. Simple there. This is a social media platform, and we know the best stuff happens offline.
Regularly review your content's performance. Which types of content get the most engagement? Use these insights to refine your strategy. I useย AuthoredUpย for all my analytics.
Keep up with industry trends and updates. Staying informed will make your content timely and relevant. I am always learning about the creator economy and staying up on things. I want to help lead this on the B2B side.
Remember, becoming a successful creator is a marathon, not a sprint.
Thatโs all fine and dandy, but are you really a creator if you do this, or are you an evangelist or even a curator? Whatโs the difference on a deeper level?
Letโs dive in!
Creators: Architects of Innovation
At the heart of the creator economy are the creators โ the visionaries, the storytellers, the ones who dare to breathe life into ideas. Whether you're crafting videos, writing blogs, or composing music, your canvas is the digital realm, and your imagination knows no bounds.
Creators are the architects of innovation, the trailblazers who dare to challenge the status quo and spark conversations that resonate with audiences far and wide. Your creativity is your currency; with every piece of content you create, you're shaping the cultural landscape and leaving an indelible mark on the world.
Evangelists: Advocates of Authenticity
Enter the evangelists โ the passionate advocates, the champions of authenticity. Your role goes beyond creating content; you're the driving force behind movements, the catalysts for change. Your passion is contagious, your enthusiasm infectious, and you wield your influence with purpose and conviction.
Evangelists are the connectors, the community builders who bridge the gap between creators and their audiences. Whether you're sharing content, fostering meaningful conversations, or rallying support for causes you believe in, your mission is clear: amplify voices, champion authenticity, and create a space where everyone feels seen and heard.
Curators: Gatekeepers of Quality
Last but certainly not least, we have the curators โ the tastemakers, the guardians of quality in a sea of content. Your discerning eye and keen sense of taste make you invaluable in a world inundated with information. Your role is to sift through the noise, uncover hidden gems, and shine a spotlight on the remarkable work of creators.
Curators are the storytellers, the custodians of culture who curate experiences that captivate, educate, and inspire whether you're compiling reading lists, curating playlists, or highlighting must-follow creators, your passion for quality and your commitment to excellence set the standard for creative expression.
Hereโs how I see it.
Whatโs Your Role in the Creator Economy?
To figure this out, try answering these questions:
Passion and Interest:
What topics, interests, or creative outlets are you most passionate about?
What types of content do you enjoy consuming and engaging with the most?
Which activities or hobbies do you naturally gravitate towards in your free time?
Skills and Strengths:
What skills or talents do you possess that you believe could be leveraged in the creator economy?
Are there specific areas where you excel, such as storytelling, communication, design, or technical expertise?
What feedback have you received from others regarding your strengths and abilities?
Purpose and Impact:
What impact do you hope to make by participating in the creator economy?
Are there causes, topics, or communities you feel strongly about and would like to advocate for?
How do you envision connecting with and contributing to your audience or community?
Long-Term Goals:
What are your long-term aspirations and goals within the creator economy?
Do you see yourself pursuing creative endeavors as a hobby, side hustle, or full-time career?
How do you envision your role evolving as you gain experience and expertise?
Learning and Growth:
Are you open to learning new skills, exploring different mediums, and adapting to changes in the digital landscape?
How do you plan to stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and opportunities within the creator economy?
Are you willing to invest time and effort into honing your craft and expanding your knowledge base?
Embrace your role with confidence, creativity, and authenticity. Let your voice be heard, your passion be felt, and your impact be known. The creator economy is yours to explore, yours to shape, and yours to define.
